What Draws Me In

Vickie’s art is drawn towards the broken, imperfect, unusual—whether it be a landscape, figure or still life she is always looking for a little imperfection or accident, a symbol that can say just a little bit more to make it my own. That may be just a spot of blue within a sea of orange or a crack in the pavement below a pot of flowers, or a stray hair that has fallen over the eye of the sitter. There is always some deeper meaning under the surface in any painting she creates…this is what keeps her work magical and interesting. Fresh brushstrokes and bold color and light are what makes her paintings stand out.

She is also passionate about building community through art and nature and sharing the way she sees the world.

Education & Career

She received her BFA in Illustration from California State University Fullerton and has been working ever since as an Illustrator and Art Director in Children’s Online entertainment companies such as Disney Interactive and Age of Learning.

Memberships & Appearances

Vickie also is a fine artist and is currently a member of the California Art Club and Allied Artists of the Santa Monica Mountains and Seashore and participates regularly in paint- outs, art shows, and exhibitions.  She frequently exhibits at Galleria Gitana and the San Fernando Cultural Arts Center and teaches drawing and plein-air painting.

Treasure

“Treasure”

My painting had become sporadic and I was feeling very uninspired but this day I had in mind to capture my daughter, my muse, in an otherworldly beauty, something magical and mystical.

Moments of Joy

This painting truly was a moment of joy to create.  The theme for this show fit perfectly as it was created on a particularly sunny and warm day and was the first allied artists paint out meeting in person since the pandemic started.  So double the joy for me.  I had been to this lake … Read more
