Morning Coffee

This painting was done plein air in my back yard in early morning. I had been eyeing this turkish coffee pot for years….admiring its patina and finally got around to painting it. I used my scratchy scruffy palette knife method which I am using to create a loose impression of what I see. The colors and light were the most important thing to me with this piece.

Little Flower Girl

This is an image of my daughter who stood in the light of the window. I've created many studies but wanted to capture her in full classical realism. Thinking of Vermeer and his gorgeous window light I lost myself in her lovely little face and the glorious texture of the dress.

Nature Bath

This is a long time vision fulfilled. I love the curve of the back and the blue jeans blue color alongside the blue of the shadow. I was most drawn in to the red of the ear in the sun. There is always some magic that happens in a painting that you don't expect but that unfolds before you.
