Listening to the trees

Listening to the trees – I smell them –It’s the best smell and I don’t know why I’ve never been here before – the tree above me even spoke to me – it dropped a leaf on my blanket as if to say hello.  Ok I’ll come back. No matter what the limitation – we show what we are within it and what we do though bound by it. There is always something to be found even in the tiniest, tightest little dark corner – in fact it may illuminate our true nature!

The above image is an excerpt from one of my sketchbooks.  Working in North Hollywood I would take my lunch breaks at a small park nearby.  I needed to feel grass and be in nature for at least a small time each day.  This is when I started to paint during my lunch breaks and it grew to be a pretty significant way to grow in my art while I had very little time because of my full-time day job.   It also helped my soul and my heart to grow a little bit lighter.

I am drawn to the light of the natural world. I love to get out there where I can meet my subject face to face in its native hues. My aim is to recapture that feeling of connectedness with all living things through the act of painting.
